Dolphin washes up, gets stranded on the sand at Carolina Beach
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Several crews are working to help a dolphin back to sea after dispatchers say the mammal was found stranded on the sand at Carolina Beach early this morning.
New Hanover County dispatchers say just before 6 a.m., they got a call about a dolphin that had washed ashore in the 700 block of Carolina Beach Avenue North. They say though the animal was stuck there, it was still alive when it was discovered by someone walking along the beach.
They say a crew with UNCW’s Marine Biology lab is there to help rescue the dolphin, along with Carolina Beach Police. Dispatchers said around 8:30 a.m. that they were waiting on a Veterinarian to get to the sand to help.
