Wrightsville Beach lifeguards back to work, hoping for safe summer
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Wrightstville Beach lifeguards are back at their posts for summer.
Rip currents are always a danger, but no need to fear. It may be their first day on the beach, but Ocean Rescue Capt. Jeremy Owens says his lifeguards are prepared to keep you safe and sound this summer, and he has some tips to make sure you don’t have to be saved in the first place.
“We have a flag system. Pay attention to the flags. They are posted on the back of the stands, talk to the lifeguards,” Owens said. “Assess how the water conditions are, and if they are comfortable in the water, know their limitations. We ask all the parents down here to watch their kids.”
He says no one drowned at Wrightsville Beach last year, and he hopes to keep it that way this year.
