Man facing charges for making threats, assault after hit and run
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say a man who threatened another driver and rammed into him with his car on Market Street early yesterday faces several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and hit and run.
Wilmington Police say it started around 8:30 a.m. when they got a call reporting a hit and run in the 2600 block of Market Street. That’s where they say the victim told officers a man in a tan Mercury began honking his horn at him, drove up next to him and started yelling profanities.
Police say the man in the Mercury, Marcus Erving Thames, 22, then hit the other man’s car. When the victim pulled over on Colonial Drive nearby, police say Thames pulled up next to him and got out of his car saying, “I’m going to shoot you, you cracker.”
Officers say Thames continued making statements to the man he hit before finally driving away. Wilmington Police found Thames at McDonald’s soon after, where they discovered he had a knife.
Thames was arrested there, and is charged with hit and run, assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, communicating threats and ethnic intimidation. His is now out of jail on bond, which was set at $25,000.
