Seymour Johnson Air Force Base changes command

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, NC (AP) — The Air Force’s first female commander of a combat fighter wing is leaving Seymour Johnson Air Force Base for a prestigious Pentagon slot.

Col. Jeannie Leavitt is handing command of the 4th Fighter Wing over to Col. Mark Slocum at 9:04 a.m. Monday at the air base.

Leavitt departs for the Pentagon, where she is going to become the chief military assistant to the Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.

Leavitt took over in 2012 and has logged more than 2,600 hours in the F-15E and more than 2,880 hours in all aircraft.

During his 22-year career, Slocum has flown more than 2,700 flight hours, including 929 hours in combat.
