Police arrest felon who ran from officers with semi-automatic gun in hand
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police arrested a man they say sparked a chase when he ran from officers with a gun in his hand Saturday night.
They say just before 10 p.m. officers got a call about a domestic situation in the 100 block of N. 30th Street. That’s where police spotted Kristopher Owen Daniels, 29, standing by a car holding a gun. When Wilmington Police challenged Daniels, he took of running with the gun in his hand.
Officers began chasing Daniels, who ran towards a fence he then got hung up on. When Police challenged him again, Daniels dropped the weapon, pulling out a bag of crack cocaine from his pant pockets, and tossed it in the woods.
When police arrested Daniels, they found the semi-automatic handgun he was holding, along with the drugs he ditched in the woods. According to the New Hanover County Jail website, Daniels was also wanted for a failure to appear.
Daniels is now charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, resisting and delaying officers, and possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana and cocaine. He is in jail under $85,5000 secured bond.
