McCrory issues 3rd veto as NC governor
GARY D. ROBERTSON
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has quickly vetoed a bill with several small unemployment insurance changes because he didn’t like how legislators altered the terms of a board he appoints to consider the appeals of benefits.
McCrory issued the veto Tuesday afternoon, sending the bill back to the General Assembly, which can override the veto if each chamber has enough votes.
McCrory’s veto centers on the three-member Board of Review. He says there are unacceptable provisions that stagger and shorten terms of current members he says have performed their duties well.
This is McCrory’s third veto since taking office 17 months ago. The legislature overrode the other two last year.
