STORMTRACK 3: First tropical depression of the season may form soon
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The first tropical depression of the Atlantic Hurricane season may form early this week off the Florida coast.
As of Sunday afternoon, the system has not yet been classified as a true tropical system. However, the disturbance may organize late tonight and Monday over the warm Gulf Stream waters. A combination of moderate wind shear and dry air will keep the system very weak.
The disturbance will drift toward the Florida coast through Tuesday, but an approaching cold front will turn the system toward the northeast by late week (and out to sea). At this point, the center of circulation appears to stay offshore of southeastern NC. However, any deviations in track will have to be monitored closely.
As of now, the July 4 week looks seasonally hot with plenty of sunshine and a slight chance of summertime thunderstorms. The chance of rain may increase slightly Thursday and Friday due to the approaching cold front.
