STORMTRACK 3: Tropical Storm/Hurricane Warnings in effect for North Carolina coast
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tropical Storm Arthur continues to organize near the Florida/Georgia coast this afternoon. The storm will pass close to the North Carolina coast Thursday evening. No direct landfall is expected in the WWAY viewing area, but we will still experience some "outer edge" effects from Arthur.
Intermittent showers will be possible anytime between Thursday morning and midnight Friday. Some showers may be heavy. Tropical Storm-force winds will be possible (mainly in coastal counties) from 5 PM Thursday to 3 AM Friday. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for coastal Pender, New Hanover, and Brusnwick counties. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for coastal Onslow County northward to the Outer Banks.
The storm will depart our area by daybreak Friday, allowing sunshine to return for most of the weekend. However, the risk of rip currents will be high at the beaches for a few days.
