STORMTRACK 3: Arthur to bring winds and rain to coastal North Carolina Thursday
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Arthur continues to organize near the Florida/Georgia coast this afternoon. The storm will travel close to the North Carolina coast Thursday evening. A Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch remains in effect for coastal counties in southeastern North Carolina (including New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick counties). Hurricane Warnings are in effect from coastal Onslow County northward toward the Outer Banks.
Intermittent showers will be possible anytime between Thursday morning and midnight Friday. Some showers may be heavy. Rainfall totals could range from 0.5 inches far inland to 3 inches (or more) near the coast. Sustained winds of 40-50 mph are possible in coastal counties anytime between 3 PM Thursday and 2 AM Friday, with a few gusts over 65 mph possible.
Arthur will depart our area by daybreak Friday, allowing sunshine to return for most of the weekend. However, the risk of rip currents will be high at the beaches for a few days.
