Power outage affects traffic lights, homes, businesses on Wilmington’s south side
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — About 2,000 customers are still without power after a large outage on the south side of town this morning knocked out service to multiple traffic lights, businesses and homes.
This morning Wilmington Police said traffic lights were out on the majority of southside streets from west of South College Road down Shipyard Blvd. to Burnett Blvd. By about 10:30 a.m. traffic lights were back on along Shipyard, including the intersection at Carolina Beach Road.
WPD says Duke Progress Energy crews located the cause of the outage at a sub-station on Carolina Beach Road and Southern Boulevard. According to Duke’s website, the issue was damage to transmission lines. According to the site, power should be restored mid-day.
Police encourage drivers to treat intersections without power as four-way stops.
