STORMTRACK 3 UPDATE: Flood watch in effect through Sunday.
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Flood Watch has been issued for the majority of Southeastern NC…including Robeson, Columbus, Brunswick, New Hanover, Bladen, Pender, Duplin, and Onslow Counties…through Sunday evening.
An offshore front drifting back towards the North Carolina coast will stall over the state this weekend. This boundary will combine with abundant tropical moisture streaming into the area to provide widespread showers and storms. These storms have the potential to become strong to severe, but flooding is the main concern.
July has been a wet month of weather altogether. In Wilmington alone, about 12 inches of rain fell since July 1st. That's about 4.5 inches greater than normal. Heavy rain, between 2-4 inches, associated with this weekend's front will fall on those same areas that received significant rainfall in the past few weeks. That warrants the potential for flooding.
