Whats Happening: April 17-19
Local bands are volunteering their time for an important cause; Rock Against Rape is this weekend. Friday night, the concerts are at Lucky’s Pub and Mellow Mushroom. On Saturday, it will be spread across various venues around Wilmington. Proceeds help keep the Rape Crisis Center up and running.
Saturday, parents of little ones, the Childcare Expo is for you. Preschools, daycare centers, as well as after school and drop-in programs are the showcase of a childcare expo. Instead of visiting multiple sites to find the best match for your child, they are all going to be here. It is from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the UNCW Warwick Center.
If your little one is of the four-legged variety, get him and you some exercise at the Canine Relay for Life. It is at Halyburton Park in Wilmington. It is from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The registration fee is $10 per dog.
Fill your belly with some chowder and rank who’s the best at the 13th Annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-off. As well as bowls of chowder, there is music, kid’s events and other food. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. You can’t miss it, it is at the Carolina Beach Lake. Tickets are $5 per person.
In downtown Wilmington, antique cars will fill Front Street at the Fifth Annual Rims on the River Vintage Car Show Saturday. It begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Get pampered without spending a dime this weekend. Stop in for the Holistic Health Fair – Everything Peaceful. It is located at 5204 Oleander Drive in Wilmington. You can sample a wide range of services, and even attend workshops on improving your health. It begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m.
Lace up your running shows. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is holding a 5k race for the Planet Seahorse Sprint on Sunday. You can register at 7:00 a.m. The race begins at 8:00 a.m. The race starts and ends at the aquarium. The registration fee is $25. Proceeds benefit educational programs at the aquarium.
