Video phone system latest security upgrade for New Hanover Co. Schools
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Students won’t be the only ones with new electronics for the new school year.
This fall many parents of kids in kindergarten through middle school will see new intercom phones at the front entrances to their schools in New Hanover County.
Office staff will be able to identify visitors via a closed circuit television before they enter the building. School leaders say the process will help keep both students and staff safe.
“It’s truly a very simple process,” said Dave Spencer, the district’s Director of Safety. “It shouldn’t be anything that’s going to be difficult for anyone including the folks coming to the schools. They shouldn’t notice much difference, other than there may be a few seconds delay. As opposed to just walking in now, they’ll press a button, a camera will come on, and they’ll say, ‘Well, hey. I’m Dave Spencer.'”
The district hopes to install the Ai Phones in all schools soon.
