UPDATE: Man robs Wilmington Walgreens, gets away with prescription drugs
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are searching for an armed man they say jumped over the pharmacy counter at a Wilmington Walgreens before taking off with prescription medication.
It happened around 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Walgreens on Oleander Drive, where police say the robber waived around a gun at employees inside. When officers got the scene, they say workers told them the man first jumped behind the pharmacy counter before demanding that staff open the door where prescription medication is kept.
Police say employees told officers the man had a white trash can in one hand and a black handgun in the other when he filled a bag with the medication he had demanded. They say he finally took off running through the service entrance.
A WPD spokeswoman says the armed robber they are searching for in connection to this crime could be the same man who robbed that same store back on Easter Sunday. Police are still investigating.
