Dosher trustees plan to meet in closed session on possible cuts
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The Dosher Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees has called a special meeting for Wednesday morning to consider a plan to address the hospital’s financial shortfall.
Trustees are scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the second floor Board Room at 129 E. Moore St. in Southport.
According to a public notice sent out this afternoon, the board plans to meet in closed session. However, there appears to be no justification for such a session.
“The results of the meeting will be released in a statement early Thursday afternoon after the hospital has had an opportunity to talk with employees about the Board’s decision,” the announcement from hospital spokesman Kirk Singer says.
Also, the notice was sent out less than the legally required 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
WWAY was first to report last month that the hospital was preparing employees for potential layoffs or early retirement packages as it deals with financial issues.
The board was supposed to discuss the shortfall at its regular meeting Aug. 4, but the discussion was postponed because two trustees could not attend.
