Interview with Kristen Dalton, the new Miss USA
You’ve probably heard by now that a 22-year-old Wilmington woman is now the reigning Miss USA. Kristen Dalton is a Hoggard High School grad, and won the crown in Las Vegas on Sunday. WWAY had the chance to interview her about her big win, and the controversy surrounding the contest.
Kristen Dalton competed against 50 of the most beautiful women in the country last weekend.
She had the highest marks in the swimsuit and evening gown competition, and ultimately took home the crown as Miss USA.
“I think that the most important thing that puts you over the top is your attitude and your positive mindset,” the new Miss USA said.
The pageant has been making national headlines all week thanks to a controversial question judge Perez Hilton asked the first runner up, Miss California.
We asked Kristen is she was disappointed at all over the amount of attention that’s been given to the Miss California controversy, the question she was asked? Has that overshadowed this win at all for you? She replied, ‘No, not at all, I welcome it. I welcome it a lot because she’s bringing publicity to the Miss USA organization, and that’s great for me, and I think that the political tone of those five questions were great, because it allowed us, the five contestants, to showcase our intelligence instead of just our beauty.”
Kristen fielded a question about the government bailout.
When asked today for her take on same sex marriage, she said she was glad we lived in a country where everyone was entitled to their own opinion, and said that’s all she had to say about it.
Kristen said she’s excited about her new home in New York City, where she’ll live for the next year while serving as Miss USA.
Her platform will focus on research, legislation, and fundraising for breast and ovarian cancer.
