Man dies after Kure Beach ocean rescue attempt
KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The man rescued from the waters at Kure Beach has died from his injuries, the police chief said.
Kure Beach Police Chief Dennis Cooper said the man who died was on vacation with his family. The rescue attempt happened near the 1100 block of South Fort Fisher Blvd. Wednesday at 11:18 a.m. Officials say fire and rescue crews worked to revive the man for 45 minutes on scene; during that time, officials were able to get a pulse back at the scene. The man was then transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Chief Cooper asked that the identity of the man be withheld until the next of kin has been notified. The man is from the western part of our state and was in his 60s.
