Brian Berger released from jail
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger is out of jail for the first time in more than three months.
According to the New Hanover County Jail, Berger was released to a Jail Diversion program around 1 p.m.
Berger had been in jail since June when he was arrested on a probation violation in Beech Mountain. His case was then delayed after there were questions about his mental competency.
Berger finally had his case heard Sept. 9. Judge Robin Robinson ruled that he had violated his probation for a DWI conviction in February. She then placed Berger on one year probation and said if he violates this probation he will have to finish out the remaining 75 days of the sentence.
Berger had to stay in jail while a Jail Diversion program could be found for him. As a term of his new probation, Berger will also have electronic monitoring.
