Police: Craigslist ad becomes attempted robbery
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police said A ‘For Sale’ ad on Craigslist lead to three arrests after it turned into an attempted robbery. Police said the victim turned the tables on his attempted robbers and ended up pulling a gun on them.
It happened around 12:45 Wednesday afternoon off of Lullwater Drive. Police said a man posted an ad for a rifle for sale on Craigslsit. After arranging a meeting to show the rifle to three men, police said one of them grabbed the gun from the victim and pointed it at him.
Police said the victim then grabbed another gun and made all three suspects lay on the ground before calling police. Though it’s not illegal, Wilmington police say selling weapons on Craigslist is a bad idea.
“Because it could be a recipe for disaster and in this case it could have been very dangerous,” Linda Rawley, the Wilmington Police spokeswoman said. “So you have a victim who is armed and suspects who are armed. It could have wound up being a tragedy.”
Edvis Galloway, 24, Savon Hardaway, 18, and Kalmeaice Williams, 38, are all charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. All three had their first court appearance today and remain in jail under a $500,000 bond.
