DOG COURT: Dog bite causes $8,000 in damage
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — One man took his neighbor to Dangerous Dog Court after he says his Boston Terrier bit him.
Rich Miller says the bite caused him around $8,000 worth of medical damage.
Reports say Gotti Arne’ ran off his owner’s property and bit Miller and Miller’s Shi Tzu.
“If I wasn’t there I think my dog would have been dead and my wife would have been bitten up pretty good,” Miller said.
Gotti’s owner Damon Arne’ says Gotti never goes out without a leash and this is the first time something like this has ever happened.
“It’s never been aggressive before, never been aggressive since,” said Arne’. “The dog sleeps with my 8-year-old.”
Since the incident, the Arne’s put Gotti through obedience training with professional dog trainer Diane Gallagher.
Gallagher says the dog did show some aggression toward other dogs but as since been rehabilitated. She contributes the aggressive behavior to Gotti’s upbringing as a rescue dog.
The panel did not see enough evidence to dismiss the charge.
“How it got out, why it got out, in my opinion, all of that can be forgiven, but it bit somebody,” one panelist said.
Gotti’s owners were found guilty of violating New Hanover County code concerning dangerous dogs.
The case will be continued to superior court.
