Weekend road repairs scheduled in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– Weekend roadwork at two locations could cause slowdowns in the Wilmington area.

The CFPUA says on Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st, CFPUA contractors will be shifting lanes in the area of Dawson and Front Street, near the off ramp for the bridge traffic merging onto Front Street. The work is part of the Dawson Street and Front Street sewer repair project. No lanes will be closed, but traffic may be slowed because of the constriction.

Also on Sunday, September, 21st, CFPUA crews will be conducting two sewer repairs in the area of South 16th Street between Wooster and Queen Streets(see map). The work will require two southbound lanes to be closed, leaving only one lane of travel moving through the work zones. The lanes will be closed by 9:00am and work will be completed by mid-afternoon.

The CFPUA asks for drivers to slow down when traveling in the area, in addition to putting down their cell phones. A spokesman says they recently had an incident where a motorist drove through several safety cones and destroyed a piece of equipment because they were moving too fast and not paying attention.
