Happening Now: State of the Art/Art of the State

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — This weekend hundreds of artist from around the state are showing off their work and helping raise money.

Cameron Art Museum is hosting the ‘State of the Art/Art of the State’ event. From noon Friday through noon Saturday, artist will drop off their work at the museum. There are musical performances all evening through midnight and starting back in the morning. The performances and arts sampler(24 hrs) are free to check out.

The event aims to raise $24,000 in 24 hours which organizers say will be matched dollar for dollar.
Artist from around the state will have their work seen by curators from around the country.

Cape Fear Community College art student Branden Summers is entering his ‘Merman’ piece of art made out of tape and plastic. “We started out just doing our hands,” he said. “and I kind of got enthralled with the body, and the casting and kind of went with it. It slowly turned into a merman. The piece is called Plasticasy”.

Curators will check out everyone’s work Saturday evening during the exhibition opening at 6pm.
