2nd Annual Dragon Boat Regatta rows in attention
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — From fun, crazy costumes to serious competition, everyone was in good spirits at the 2nd Annual Carolina Beach Dragon Boat Regatta and Festival this weekend.
Over 17 teams competed with each one consisting of 21 members. Those racing were not just racing for the top place, but for a good cause.
All of the proceeds from this event directly go to benefit Step Up For Soldiers and their programs providing volunteer services for renovations, recreation and recognition for recently disabled veterans.
Bob Lewis, President of Island Men, said proceeds are going back into the local community. “Step Up For Soldiers are building a house up in Monkey Junction. It’s called the Kramer house. The Kramer house will be able to house a veteran coming back him or her family for a period of time when they are going to college or going to retraining or job training.” Lewis said.
Our very own members of the WWAY station were there competing as a team and winning against another Wilmington TV station.
There were beginners to experts competing, even some folks traveling all the way to Maryland for the race.
