Autism insurance in NC subject of pro-Tillis ad

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — An group that says it’s not required to disclose donors is spending another $2 million on television ads promoting U.S. Senate candidate Thom Tillis by highlighting his support for requiring insurance coverage for autism disorders.

Carolina Rising leader Dallas Woodhouse said Tuesday two ads are running in several TV markets featuring a family with a child with autism thanking Tillis for fighting for coverage while speaker of the House. A bill passed the House last year but got stuck in the Senate.

The group already has run two ads crediting Tillis and Gov. Pat McCrory on teacher pay and education funding. McCrory is not on this fall’s ballot.

Woodhouse confirmed the group’s advertising spending to-date at $4.7 million. The group cites its federal tax designation in keeping donors’ names secret.
