Easing traffic woes in Leland
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Traffic is a pain and folks who commute to and from Leland know that all too well.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is trying to alleviate some of those woes though and tonight you got a chance to speak your mind.
It’s no secret with construction on the causeway and Leland’s growing population traffic out that way is out of hand.
At a meeting tonight, folks with NC D.O.T. were answering questions and doing their part to explain when this traffic problem will be alleviated.
Most folks we spoke with said over the past couple week’s things have gotten better and D.O.T. says that is thanks in large part to folks in the community driving smarter.
Smarter they say by getting to work earlier, or letting kids ride the bus. People in the area are doing little things that make a big difference.
Some say though this is all a part of progress.
“When you’re trying to get to work and you’re trying to get home,” said Linda Warren, who lives in Leland. “I fully understand the frustration and impatience people feel.”
The causeway construction project will be ongoing until 2016 with road construction around the entire Leland area not set to wrap up until 2017.
One of the big questions tonight as well about I-140 and when that portion between US 17 and US 74-76 would open up. D.O.T. said they plan to open it up sometime in the next 30 days.
