Wilmington restaurant affected by data breach
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington location is one of more than 200 Jimmy John’s restaurants affected by a data security breach, the company says.
According to a news release, on July 30, the company learned of “a possible security incident credit and debit cards” at some stores and immediately hired a forensic expert to look into it. Jimmy John’s says it appears credit and debit card data was compromised after someone stole log-in credentials from a point-of-sale vendor and used the information to remotely access the point-of-sale systems at some corporate and franchised locations between June 16 Sept. 5.
Among the 216 locations affected is the Jimmy John’s at 120 Market St. in downtown Wilmington. According to the company’s website, that store was affected between July 1 and Aug. 1
Jimmy John’s says it has taken step to make sure something like this does not happen again. It is also offering identity protection services to any customers affected by the breach.
