Linamar Corp. adding 125 auto parts jobs in NC
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — An auto parts manufacturer is being offered $1.4 million in incentives to add 125 North Carolina jobs that pay average salaries lower than the local average.
North Carolina officials said Friday that Linamar Corp. planned to expand after preserving 145 jobs now at the Carolina Forge Co.’s Wilson engine transmission plant, which Linamar is buying. The company could claim all the state and local grants and training assistance if it meets investment and job targets.
The new jobs are expected to pay almost $38,000, less than the Wilson County average of $40,000.
Gov. Pat McCrory said the automotive industry is one of the key targets in his administration’s economic development strategy and Guelph, Ontario-based Linamar is important to boosting that sector.
Linamar also employs 170 workers in Buncombe County.
