It has been days since massive wildfires broke out in Horry County. Fire crews from three states have been working around the clock to get the situation under control.

“It has been exciting and tiresome,” said Glen Callahan of the Clarkton Fire Department.

South Carolina Forestry officials said as of Saturday afternoon, the blaze that chewed through 31 square miles was 85 percent contained.

However, winds out of the south are still causing problems in some areas.

“The wind definitely has a lot of effect on it. It is causing hot spots to flair up,” said Cypress Creek Fire Chief Edwin Ezel on Saturday.

Holly Welch of the SC Forestry Commission said it will still be a few days before all of the fire is contained.

For those who have homes in the area its now safe for them to return. If they have homes to return to as more than 75 homes have been destroyed. Miraculously, there are no deaths or related injuries.
