Carolina Beach residents voice opinions on upcoming projects
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach residents got to voice their opinions on some upcoming improvements to the area at an open house meeting Tuesday night.
Folks want to know what’s next for the beach town as renovations to the boardwalk, sidewalks and other community improvements are set to begin in the coming weeks.
“I think anything they can do to, you know, keep that boardwalk going is always good for tourists coming down here,” resident Mary Wilborn said. “It’s a fun place. My grandchildren love to come down here and go to the boardwalk area.”
Carolina Beach Mayor Dan Wilcox says these public meetings are important to keep people informed and involved in the construction, since it will impact them.
“We’re having an open house tonight so we can show people the scheduling, let them know what to expect and take input from them,” Mayor Wilcox said.
The boardwalk is one of the areas that will be undergoing some heavy repairs in the coming months, which includes a new hotel and sidewalk renovations. Mayor Wilcox believes that although there is a long road ahead, the final product will be worth it.
“We’re going to have four months worth of a lot of activity, construction activity, down here,” Wilcox said. “And hopefully in the spring, people are going to see some dramatic improvements because of that.”
As for the portion of the boardwalk impacted by last week’s fire, Mayor Wilcox says it will be at least another 30 days before they can full assess the future of those locations.
