Wilmington man convicted of 2012 robbery of Papa John’s delivery driver
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man with an extensive criminal history is going to prison, and he could face up to twenty years behind bars after a conviction in federal court Tuesday.
A jury found Deismond Simpson, 29, guilty of robbery and carrying a firearm during a violent crime, according to a news release. Simpson robbed a Wilmington Papa John’s delivery driver and repeatedly beat him in the head with a handgun back in 2012.
According to the release, the crime resulted in serious head injuries, which required the driver to get numerous staples. Simpson was later connected to the crime with DNA evidence.
He is in jail in Pasquotank County as he awaits sentencing.
