Samaritan’s Purse to provide Ebola relief supplies

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — A North Carolina-based Christian relief organization is flying about 100 tons of supplies to west African nations struggling to halt the spread of the deadly Ebola virus.

The Rev. Franklin Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse, outlined the mission at a news conference Wednesday at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Graham called Ebola the most dangerous virus in the world. He said it will take time to overcome the virus, and the international community needs to provide assistance to Liberia to help stop the disease from spreading further.

The plane was scheduled to depart Charlotte shortly after noon.

According to the World Health Organization, Ebola is thought to have sickened more than 6,500 people in West Africa. More than 3,000 deaths have been linked to the disease.
