NEW DETAILS: 911 calls describe deadly Wilmington shooting
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As police continue searching for more information into the deadly shooting in Wilmington yesterday afternoon, 911 calls from witnesses give us a better description of the scene minutes after it happened.
Around 4 p.m. Martineze Vaughn, 26, was found dead in the back seat of a car at 9th and Orange streets with several gunshot wounds.
Several 911 calls came into dispatchers soon after shots were fired; some were frantic, and others, rather calm.
“Someone was shot in front of my building,” one caller said in a panic. “I’m at 142 South Ninth Street. I don’t know, I heard gun shots. I got my kids in this house. Like, y’all, can I get an officer over here. Please. Just get an officer over here.”
Another caller, who told dispatchers he was a delivery driver, was just one of the other witnesses who called to report the crime.
“Um, somebody has been shot,” the next caller said. “I just arrived on the scene. I’m a Domino’s delivery driver.”
“Was it a male,” a female dispatcher asked the caller.
“Yes ma’am,” the caller responded. “Black male.”
“Shot approximately three or four times,” the dispatcher asked.
“Yes ma’am,” the caller said.
Investigators ask anyone with information on the shooting to call the Wilmington Police Department.
