NC jobless rate dips to 6.7 percent in September
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina’s unemployment rate is down slightly, but so is the number of people working.
North Carolina officials said Tuesday the state unemployment rate dipped to 6.7 percent in September, down one-tenth of a percentage point from August. The national unemployment rate fell to 5.9 percent last month.
North Carolina’s jobless rate had been as low as 6.2 percent in April before inching up again through the spring and summer. The state unemployment rate has dropped a full percentage point in the past year from 7.7 percent in September 2013.
While the unemployment rate was fell and nearly 4,600 fewer people were counted among the jobless in September, the number of working people also decreased. There were 5,600 fewer people working in September than in August.
