WPD: Drunk man hits patrol car downtown
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police arrested a man they say was drunk when he hit a police patrol car at an intersection in downtown Wilmington Wednesday morning.
Wilmington Police say it happened at around 1:30 a.m. when a car was making a wide turn onto Orange Street from Front Street. That’s where police say Clifford McDonald Reaves, 40, lightly struck an officer’s patrol car with his vehicle.
Police say there was no obvious damage to the patrol car, but after further investigation they discovered that Reaves was impaired. Officers say Reaves already had his license revoked because of a previous DWI charge.
Reaves now faces charges for DWI and other offenses related to the accident and revoked license, according to a WPD spokeswoman. He is behind bars under $1,500 bond, awaiting a hearing, which is set for today.
