Whats Happening: May 15-17


Immerse yourself in Greek heritage this weekend. Greek Fest has returned to Wilmington. Good food is not all you’ll enjoy; there will be music, Greek dancing, a gift shop and even church tours. It is at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Hours are noon until 11:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Noon until 8:00 p.m. Sunday. A three dollar admission fee gets you in all weekend.

Friday, it’s the 4th Annual Tour of Homes at Wrightsville Beach. Six waterfront homes are on the tour, as well as the Wrightsville Beach Museum. The tour begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 for the tour or $30 for the tour and lunch.

Get ready to tickle your funny bone. Friday and Saturday is the 2nd Annual Port City Top Comic Stand-up Comedy Contest. It is happening at City Stage at Level Five. Admission is five dollars. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. with shows starting at 9:00 p.m.

Pender Spring Fest is Saturday. Opening ceremonies are at 9:30 a.m. There will be dancing, arts and crafts, and food and games. If you want to go, it is at Courthouse Square.

It is your chance to get your hands on a piece of history. Saturday, it’s the Burgwin Wright House Big Attic Sale. You can buy lamps, linens, silverware and other household treasures. The entrance fee is two dollars.

Walk Fido, and protect him at the same time. Capeside Animal Hosptial and BB&T are sponsoring a dog walk. It begins at the Brunswick Forest BB&T. It runs from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The first 20 people will get a free rabies vaccine for their pet.

You can also get a free rabies vaccine Saturday in New Hanover County. Bring your pet’s latest rabies vaccination records with you to Ogden Park, off Market Street. The clinic runs from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Sunday, it is Oak Island’s 10th Annual Garden Tour and Plant Sale. The garden tour is from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.; the plant sale is from noon until 4:00 p.m. It is at the Oak Island Rec Center. You can get tickets there in advance for six dollars. The day of, tickets are eight dollars. There is no admission fee to the plant sale.
