NC DOT to ease Memorial Day weekend road work
RALEIGH — Good news for North Carolina drivers on the road Memorial Day weekend: Officials plan to halt most road construction projects to ease traffic.
The state Department of Transportation said suspensions will begin Friday at 4 p.m. and conclude the morning after Memorial Day at 9 a.m.
Officials said the suspensions will be along major routes and interstates. Two exceptions will be a pavement project on Interstate 85 North between mile markers 206 and 214 and
construction on the U.S. 311 Bypass on I-85 North and I-85 South.
Law enforcement agencies will also conduct the annual “Click It or Ticket” program that includes stepped up patrols for motorists not wearing seat belts.
AAA Carolinas expects around 754,000 North Carolina drivers to travel beginning Friday.
