RALEIGH — North Carolina students will arrive this week in Raleigh to start state government summer internships.

The Department of Administration says around 100 students are expected Tuesday. They were selected from undergraduate, graduate and law programs.

The intern program is 39 years old and is coordinated by the Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office.

Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton and Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin will speak to the group. Goodwin is a former intern.

The state said 714 students from 82 counties applied for internships. Interns are paid $8.25 an hour and their term ends July 31.
