Fans pack Buck Hardee Field for Sharks opener

Fans packed the sidelines and seats at Buck Hardee Field Thursday night for the Sharks home opener. Before the game began, royalty took the mound. Miss USA, Wilmington native Kristen Dalton, threw the first pitch. Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo also showed off his arm.

Now that the season is underway, Sharks fans are chomping at the bit to come out and watch America’s past time. “It’s something different. Not sit in front of the TV watching TV all night, you come out and get together with your friends,” said Sharks fan Amanda McCoy.

Five dollar general admission tickets make the games even more appealing. Josh Jeanes was at the home opener and said, “It’s very affordable, a good time. You come out with your buddies, hang out, have a good time. It’s like five bucks at the door or something like that and you get drinks for a dollar.”

An outing to the ballpark can be a great family affair. The kids love hanging out with their friends, hitting the concession stand, and watching the big guys take the field. “They’re really fun to watch,” said Xander Garon. “I like when they hit home runs.”

The Sharks have a full season ahead of them, and if the home opener is any indication of how the season will go, they’re in good shape.

The Sharks won their home opener against the Blowish 6-4. The Sharks take on the Blowfish again Saturday in Columbia.
