Getting dirty drug needles off your streets
A child walks home from the playground, and steps on a dirty needle thrown away by a heroin user. A police officer searches a suspect and gets stuck by a used needle hidden inside a pocket or purse. Needle sticks bring potential cases of HIV or Hepatitis-C. A new pilot program launches December 1 where workers will go into "high-use" heroin areas to clean up dirty needles, and to get users to discard needles voluntarily without having to worry about being charged by police.
