Body

RALEIGH — North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan’s first bill will promote financial literacy.

The Democratic lawmaker started work on Capitol Hill in January. She is planning to speak with reporters Wednesday as she introduces her first measure.

The bill would create grants for states that agree to include financial literacy material into curriculum for students from sixth grade to 12th grade.

Hagan wrote a bill in the state Senate that required financial literacy education in North Carolina public schools.

She has said those skills are more important than ever because of the economic recession.
