Residents oppose WPD’s LRAD purchase

Residents are contacting Wilmington City Council members and meeting with the police department with concerns over WPD’s proposed LRAD purchase. Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous asked council last week to approve appropriating nearly $30,000 to buy an LRAD 450.  The LRAD broadcasts messages, warnings and instructions from up to 1.86 miles away. Alderman Elementary celebrates NC Arbor Day

Alderman Elementary celebrated the statewide arbor day celebration on Friday with the planting of an oak tree. Students also presented facts about trees in our area and read "The Giving Tree."   Kindergarten students gave a special performance for a crowd of faculty and members of the Wilmington Tree Commission. Farmers battle freeze to protect local berry crops
