26 rescued from charter boat fire off Little River Inlet

Twenty-six people were rescued by the Coast Guard Wednesday morning after their fishing charter boat caught fire off Little River Inlet.<br>Petty Officer Chris Harwood, with the Georgetown Coast Guard station, said at mid-morning that the 26 were pulled from the water and were being taken to Calabash. “We’ve got them out safely,” he said.

New regulations imposed on N.C. shark fishing

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries released a proclamation last week increasing regulations for shark fishing. For example, the sandbar shark has been added to the list of sharks that cannot be fished.

Attack spurs self-defense classes, money for victim

For the second time this year, a violent sex-crime in downtown Wilmington sparked outrage and community action.<br>Last week, a 24-year-old woman was sexually assaulted and repeatedly stabbed in a church courtyard near the intersection of Third and Market streets. Her injuries were serious enough to need surgery, police said.
