Pender County to consider banning sex offenders from parks

The Pender County Board of Commissioners may be following behind its big-city neighbor to the south by enacting an ordinance that would ban registered sex offenders from parks.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – An 8-year-old Florida boy and his father were mauled by a black bear that pounced on the boy in a creek without provocation in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, authorities said Tuesday.

Brush fire closes part of Sidbury Road

A segment of Sidbury Road in the 5500 block, between Blue Clay Road and Ennis Acres Drive, in New Hanover County was shut down about 2:20 p.m. today as crews battled a brush fire north of the road.<br>Fire crews from Castle Hayne and New Hanover responded to the fire, along with Pender EMS.
