Police break up drag racers near Charlotte, speeds hit 140 mph

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested four drivers and seized six cars after a group of people turned a 13-mile stretch of Interstate 485 into a drag-racing strip.<br>The Charlotte Observer reported that some of the drivers raced at speeds in excess of 100 mph before police could stop them Saturday.

On-campus health clinic to open at Ashley High

More New Hanover County students will have easy access to health care when an on-campus clinic opens later this month at Ashley High School.<br>Wilmington Health Access for Teens, a nonprofit focusing on adolescent health, will open its third school-based health center in the county when classes start Aug. 26.

Two women attacked; incidents might be linked to downtown assault

Wilmington police are looking for the man or men who attacked two women within hours of each other early Saturday morning.<br>And one of the women told police the assailant looked like the man she’d seen in a sketch of a suspect in a sexual assault case from last month.
