Athletic budgets not going unscathed in New Hanover

County Athletic Director Joe Miller doesn’t want to complain because, for the most part, New Hanover County’s athletic programs are spoiled. But this year, as gas prices skyrocket and inflation eats into the budget, things are getting tougher for the county’s four high schools.

Seven injured in Brunswick County car wreck

Winnabow | Seven people were “substantially injured” Thursday morning when two minivans collided on U.S. 17 at the intersection of south N.C. 87. <br>The accident occurred when a woman driving a green van failed to turn left while yielding onto 17 southbound.

Ga. having record year for sea turtle nests

Rare loggerhead sea turtles are having a record nesting season on the Georgia coast and have been laying eggs in promising numbers on southern Atlantic beaches from Florida to the Carolinas.

N.C. high school football player dies after practice

A North Carolina high school football player has died after practice and officials are investigating whether he was dehydrated. Seventeen-year-old Atlas Fraley of Chapel Hill High School died Tuesday.
