Storm expected to come ashore today, possibly as a tropical system

With a possible tropical system brewing off the coast, the National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a coastal flood advisory for New Hanover and Pender counties.<br>The advisory, which runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., warns about possible flooding as <br>high tides combine with winds up to 35 mph blowing ashore.

Remains found in Columbus County

Columbus County sheriff’s deputies found remains this week, which they suspect are those of Carol Marie Batten Dowless, a 26-year-old mother of four who disappeared three years ago.

Caswell Beach mayor hatches plan to save turtles from foxes

Caswell Beach foxes could get a fighting a chance. <br>The town’s turtle watch coordinators have put on hold their push to trap and kill the furry bandits that dig into sea turtle nests and eat the eggs. They had originally asked the town for permission to trap on public land.

Blood supply low in wake of Ike, Calif. train disaster
