Beaches get $9 million in federal funds to pump sand

Several area beaches have received $9 million from the federal government to help pay for renourishment projects scheduled for 2010. <br>Officials said the funding, announced Monday, ensures four beaches get the renourishment work they need to withstand future storms and continue to provide recreation for residents and tourists.

Titan plant opponents protest at final workshop

About 100 people came out to stand on the bike path and wave signs at passing cars as Carolinas Cement Co., the Titan subsidiary that would operate the Castle Hayne plant, held its final public workshop Monday at the UNCW Executive Development Center on Military Cutoff Road.

Boats must move for Carolina Beach State Park marina work

Boat owners who moor their vessels at Carolina Beach State Park have until Nov. 16 to remove their craft so upgrades to the park’s marina can begin.<br>The $2.5 million project includes new docks, bulkheads, walkways and dredging of the marina basin and access channel.
