Century 21 to offer tour of foreclosed homes on Pleasure Island

All aboard the foreclosure bus tour of Carolina Beach.<br>In a sign of the depressed housing market on Pleasure Island and other beach towns, Century 21 Brock has signed up 30 people so far to tour 20 properties Saturday that range in asking price from $112,900 for a 500-square-foot condo to more than $400,000.

Disabled man attacked in Shallotte home

A 61-year-old disabled Shallotte man was attacked in his home in the early-morning hours Saturday during a robbery, according to a Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office report.<br>The man reportedly has recovered from the attack, a spokeswoman said.

New Hanover High grad mapping spread of AIDS in Malawi

Cameron Taylor spent part of her summer mapping brothels in Malawi. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill junior was using mapping techniques to document how AIDS spreads among populations. She plans to go back next summer.

Chiefs sign former Hoggard, UNC kicker Connor Barth

On his first official day of work with the Kansas City Chiefs, Connor Barth had the day off.<br>Tuesday is the normal rest day for Chiefs players, so the former Hoggard and North Carolina kicker was limited to a few practice kicks at a mostly empty training facility.

Truck wreck ties up outbound traffic on U.S. 421

A tractor-trailer overturned at noon Tuesday in the area of the Battleship North Carolina, backing up traffic headed south on U.S. 421 and west on U.S. 74/76.
