Authorities capture escaped prisoner

A Columbus County fugitive was captured Saturday afternoon close to where he escaped.<br>Archie Funderburk, 39, ran off from a road cleanup crew of medium security prisoners Thursday morning. They were working on N.C. 701, just north of Whiteville, and his escape prompted the city’s school district to lock down its schools.

Obama to campaign in Fayetteville on Sunday

Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee for president, will hold a rally Sunday afternoon at Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, according to a campaign news release.<br>Doors open at 11 a.m. and the program is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. The venue is at 1960 Coliseum Drive.
