Voters to decide on $164 million for Cape Fear Community College expansion

Cape Fear Community College officials are pitching a $164 million question to voters.<br>The college, which administrators say has reached its limit in terms of space, is asking New Hanover County voters to approve a bond referendum that will enable CFCC to build three new buildings.

BREAKING NEWS: Child hit at Monkey Junction McDonald’s

A child was hit by a vehicle in a McDonald’s parking lot Saturday afternoon.<br>The accident happened outside the McDonald’s at 5210 S. College Road, according to a New Hanover County 911 dispatcher. The child was hit at around 1:05 p.m. in an accident that involved two vehicles, the dispatcher said.

When Beth Grant called her mother’s hospital room she never expected to hear a chorus belting out “Puff the Magic Dragon” and “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” especially when one of the singers was her ailing mother, Elizabeth “Libba” Grant, who at the time was barely able to speak.<br>Libba died Oct. 13 of natural causes at the age of 81.
